Frequently Asked Questions

What household incomes qualify for Accessible Tuition? Because every family’s situation is unique, it is not possible to determine a family’s eligibility or tuition amount without a full application. However, families unable to afford full tuition amounts or experiencing life changing events are encouraged to apply.

What if a Detroit Waldorf School family experiences an income change during the school year? Any family that experiences a major shift in income or life circumstances during the school year, whether they currently participate in Accessible Tuition or pay the published tuition, can request an adjustment Accessible Tuition application.

Does applying for Accessible Tuition affect admission to Detroit Waldorf School? No. The application process begins only after an acceptance letter is received by the family.

Do families need to apply every year? Yes. Families must complete an Accessible Tuition application every year they wish to participate in the Accessible Tuition Program.

When does a family find out how much they will pay for Tuition? At the end of the Conversation meeting.

What happens if the school and the family do not come to an agreement on Tuition? If the school and the family are not able to come to a tuition agreement at the end of a Conversation meeting, the family has the option to pay full tuition, or has the option to disenroll from the school.

What are the application requirements for divorced, separated, never married, or nontraditional families? Our community includes families with varied circumstances. The program requires all participating parents, step-parents, and guardians to be a part of the Accessible Tuition process and to find ways to contribute and help support the school. When a parent or guardian is the sole provider of their child or children, additional documentation is required.

Is the process confidential? Yes. The only members of our community who review the information you provide are members of the Accessible Tuition Committee and the Conversationalists you meet with. We require that each family, as well as representatives of the school, keep confidential the terms of your enrollment agreement amendment, including the tuition agreed upon.

Who are the Conversationalists I’ll meet with? Conversations are held at the end of the application process, after the Accessible Tuition Committee review, and are conducted by volunteers within our community. Volunteers are made up of Detroit Waldorf School faculty and staff, parents, board members, and alums. If you are interested in volunteering, and are also a part of the Detroit Waldorf School community, reach out to the Accessible Tuition Coordinator to find out more.
