Eurythmy Lyrist

After teaching in public schools in 4 states, Ms. Carpenter walked into a Waldorf School and appreciated the atmosphere and attention to the nurturing of the children in the school's open house. She moved across the country back to Detroit to attend the Waldorf Teacher Training Program (and was introduced to the lovely tones of the lyre) and was welcomed as a class teacher in 1994. With the encouragement of her class's parents (and several bake sales), the school bought a dozen pentatonic lyres so Ms Carpenter could bring this new instrument to the first, second, and third graders. After Ms. Carpenter retired from class teaching, Ms. Eddy asked her to play the lyre for the early childhood Eurythmy classes in 2003. They have been working together ever since. Ms. Carpenter now plays for the 5 Early Childhood classes, the First, Second, and Third Grade Eurythmy classes and offers lessons to individuals and groups of children in the after-school program.
