The Impact of Your Support

Detroit Waldorf School works to build a strong community within its walls and in partnership with its neighbors. Your generosity ensures that DWS—the last independent school in the city of Detroit—continues to offer a rich and dynamic education to a geographically, racially, and socio-economically diverse student body. Please know how deeply grateful we are for your support.

Learning in a beautiful, historic space

From the front gate to the classroom, the aesthetics of learning spaces matter. Where our children learn impacts how our children learn, and also how our children feel.

DWS is the only school that lives in an Albert Kahn-designed building, and maintaining our historic home is something we take seriously. Learning about the world in a beautiful environment--one bursting with character, light, and life--is grounding and nourishing to us all.

Please consider making a donation to support our home!

Preserving Childhood

Young children explore and learn about their world with an intensity that is unmatched at any other stage of life, and DWS nurtures this natural sense of wonder, discovery, and imagination in every child who walks through the gate. This experiential and integrated approach to education engages the intellectual, physical and emotional development of every child.

Please consider making a donation today to support DWS in this important work.

Volunteers at DWS

Volunteers play an important role at Detroit Waldorf School, helping to grow our school community, support the faculty and staff, and enrich the lives of our students. The Parent Group, for example, coordinates parent education opportunities, community outreach and fundraising efforts, and organizes faculty appreciation days.

Please consider joining the Gifts of Waldorf Giving Campaign in support of our wonderful volunteers!

Learning in Nature

DWS fosters a connection to nature every day, in every season. Students play and learn outdoors and participate in the natural rhythms of life. As students mature, their focus shifts to more practical lessons about farming, gardening, animal studies, and earth science.

In the older grades, observation leads to inquiry and an experimental approach to the study of nature and science.

Please consider joining the Gifts of Waldorf Giving Campaign today in support of DWS’s efforts to cultivate a life-long love and respect for nature in all children.

Accessible Tuition Program

The Detroit Waldorf School adopted the Accessible Tuition Program in 2009 to align itself more fully with the school’s mission: to provide a rich and dynamic pre-K-8th grade Waldorf education to a geographically, racially, and socio-economically diverse student body in Detroit and Southeast Michigan.

Because we believe every family adds value to the school, the program ensures that the acceptance of a child into DWS is independent of financial resources. Though about half of DWS families currently participate in AT, our entire community is strengthened and enriched.

Please consider donating to the Gifts of Waldorf Giving Campaign in support of the Accessible Tuition Program.

Giving Thanks

For ten days we have celebrated the many gifts that DWS gives our children, from exceptional educators to outdoor learning. Today, we celebrate the gifts that YOU bring to DWS. Our community came out in full support of this campaign, and with the matching donations, we raised more than $20,000!

Thank you. Your generosity impacts our school at every level. The quality of our programming, the professional development of our teachers, and the overall experience of each of our students is made possible by contributions like yours.
