Faculty: Ronald Malabed
Music Teacher - (Band) - Grades 5-8
Mr. Malabed recently retired from Renaissance High School and holds a Bachelor of Music Education, Master’s of Music Education, and an Education Specialist in School Administration and Supervision from Wayne State University. Throughout the years, his bands have consistently received superior and excellent ratings at the Michigan School Band and Orchestra Association (MSBOA) District and State Band, Orchestra, and Jazz Festivals.
In 2009, the Detroit School of Arts HS Band Department, under his direction, was awarded the prestigious Grammy Signature Schools Award. Two of his symphonic bands have successfully auditioned and performed at Carnegie Hall, one from Detroit School of Arts HS in 2013, and the other from Renaissance HS in April 2017. For many years, Ronald's high school jazz bands were selected to perform at the Detroit Jazz Festival. Ronald Malabed has also been awarded MSBOA District XV Band Director of the Year on several occasions.
