Support Detroit Waldorf School
Detroit Waldorf School works to build a strong community within its walls and in partnership with its neighbors. Parents, faculty, and staff work hand-in-hand to ensure that DWS, the last independent school in the city of Detroit, continues to offer a rich and dynamic education to students in southeast Michigan.
As the only independent school in Detroit spanning preschool through 8th grade, DWS relies on fundraising to support its accessible tuition program, which provides exceptional educational experiences to roughly half of all DWS students. Detroit Waldorf School, home to one of the most diverse student bodies in Michigan, provides a dynamic, rigorous education incorporating arts, science, and humanities to embrace the natural curiosity and imagination of children.
The school is dedicated to continual growth and development to reach an ever-growing population of families and community members. Gifts of time, money and expertise are essential components of commitment to our school.
Our hope is that everyone who is part of the Detroit Waldorf School family will consider a gift to our school. The collective strength of our community makes our circle strong. Please, join our circle of giving.
Detroit Waldorf School is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, so every gift to Detroit Waldorf School is 100% tax-deductible.
How We Raise Funds
Your everyday spending can make a difference for Detroit Waldorf School! Turn your dollars into donations with our Everyday Giving program. We are grateful to partner with the following retailers that directly donate to DWS with minimal set-up and no extra cost to you!
The Walk-A-Thon is a traditional fall fundraiser that allows students to participate in raising funds for the school community. The children and extended community secure pledges to walk a certain number of miles during the school day at a pre-determined location. All of the funds raised from the pledges will support the school.
The annual auction takes place in the spring and is the largest fundraising effort each school year. The DWS community is invited to purchase tickets for the event, which includes hors d’oeuvres, dinner, and live and silent auctions. At the start of the event, patrons are welcome to bid on items in the silent auction. After dinner is served, the live auction begins. Local businesses, DWS families, and members of the Detroit community donate all silent and live auction items.
Our long-time Honeybee class teacher and beloved colleague, Mary Cryderman, passed away on November 5, 2018. DWS honors Mary’s commitment to helping new teachers grow and learn. By donating to this fund, you will enable us to provide financial assistance to staff wishing to pursue Waldorf Early Childhood teacher training.
By including Detroit Waldorf School in your estate plans, you will ensure that Metro Detroit children have access to a high quality education long after your lifetime.
Tuition alone does not cover Detroit Waldorf School’s operating costs. We rely on gifts to the Annual Fund to fulfill our mission and provide the highest quality educational experience for our students.
