Community Events 2011-2012Detroit Waldorf School’s Book Club: Join us on the fourth Wednesday of each month for a discussion centered on the book Simplicity Parenting. The group will meet in the North Star Shop from 8:30am - 9:30am. Copies of the book will be for sale as well in the shop. Please call the school to find out which chapter will be discussed. Runs September - May: no meetings in November, December or February.
Detroit Waldorf School’s It Takes a Village Parent Education Series Join us: Thursday, February 2, 2012 @ 6:30pm Detroit Waldorf School hosts their third parent education evening covering the topic of building attention, organization and focus for young children. Children need an environment that will support a development of inner resources that will last a lifetime. This evening talk will highlight a few activities for adults to support their attention and will power and we will learn the stages by which children develop capacities for attention, organization and task completion. This workshop is for parents, teachers and those interested in problems of focus. Guest Speaker, Mary Jo Oresti, M.A. has been an educator in the field of learning differences since the early 1970's. She teaches part time at the Detroit Waldorf School, serves as president of the Association for a Healing Education, directs their Educational Support Program and teaches and consults in a number of remedial programs.
