Parent Spotlight - Chris Reilly

You may have sampled Chris Reilly's amazing cheese or ice-cream at a school event, as beer and cheese master extraordinaire for Detroit's Traffic Jam & Snug restaurant, he donates his time and talents in many ways around the school.  In addition to his culinary efforts, he volunteers for grounds projects and has served as an outstanding spokesperson for the school. 

Chris and his wife Gabrielle are parents to Beatrix and Delaney, second grade and kindergarten.

Detroit Waldorf Receives $100,000 Gift

“It was just so unexpected that it was one of those moments where time stood still,” Tara Tuomaala, director of development, said of the Detroit Waldorf School’s $100,000 — the largest individual gift in its 47-year history.

Parent Spotlight - Sandy Jurek

DWS Parent, Sandy Jurek, was recently named CIO of the year by Crain's Business Magazine. Sandy is the parent of Max who is an 8th grader at DWS.


She joined Macomb County as the Chief Information Officer in August 2012 and according to the county, "has had a positive impact since day one." Congratulations Sandy!

Staff Spotlight - Letitia Waitkus

Meet Leticia Waitkus, DWS Special Event Coordinator. Leticia is a current parent of a DWS second grade student and heads our two biggest fundraisers of the year, the Walk-a-Thon and the spring Auction.

In her free time, Leticia enjoys cooking, gardening, hiking and kayaking.
